The following scans were taken from photographs shot in the early 1930's. They were all amateur photographs taken with equipment that was popular for the time. This must be kept in mind when looking at these photographs. Back in these times, cameras did not possess the sophistication of today's equipment and will therefore exhibit less than ideal focus and clarity.
You may also notice in the "no post processing" scans, that these photos have become less-black and white, and have begun to turn more of a sepia color. This is a factor of the passage of time. These photographs will continue to degrade as time goes by, however, the scanned images will never degrade from the date that we acquire them for you.
Further, you will notice that the post processing has restored the pictures back to their originally shot black and white, removing the traces of sepia. All of our Black & White photograph scans are done at 8bit, 1200dpi scanning resolution.
The red outlined bubble shows you a representative image of what this picture looked like before we scanned it.
The blue outlined bubble pointing to the finished "customer ready" scan gives you details on the file. This gives you an idea of the specifications of the completed files you'll expect to receive. Of course you will also receive the same image in JPG format, reduced in resolution by 50 percent. These reduced JPG files will be suitable for printing your images if you'd like at your favorite photo printing retailer. Alternatively, these JPG images give you more than enough resolution for displaying on your phones, portable display devices, computers, digital frames... any device that supports JPG format images. The possibilities are endless. Even e-mailing to your friends and family.
As discussed elsewhere on the website, the TIF format images are given to you because they contain ALL of the data from the original scan. Retain these as they are a permanent copy of all of the photo information that was captured at the time of scanning with no compression or loss of data.

The first scan is an un-modified raw scan as the photograph exists at the time of scanning.
The second scan is what you would receive if this were your photo. You may notice, that the sculpted border around the photograph has been edited away. Should you prefer to receive your scans with their original borders, you need only mention it in the comments area of the order form, and that part of the photograph will be retained for you. As you can see, the sepia color is gone, and it has been restored back to it's original black and white.

The first scan is an un-modified raw scan as the photograph exists at the time of scanning. What's interesting about this photograph is that it's actual original dimensions are less than 2cm square. Scanning at a resolution of 1200dpi gives you more than enough to print at a much larger picture size. This tiny original photograph, once scanned, will produce a very nice 5 x 7 print showing details not easily noticed in the original.
The second scan is what you would receive if this were your slide.
